The company offers several types of residencies. Residencies can last from two days up to two weeks, and may be tailored to fit a specific schedule. They may include master classes, lecture/demonstrations, open rehearsals, pre-performance discussions by the artistic director, and kid or family performances. Residencies of at least a week may also include Roni Koresh setting a piece from the company's repertory on students in a performing arts high school or university setting.

Dance Technique or Repertory Class
Michael Velez and Koresh Dance CompanyMr. Koresh's class is in the style of the company and usually directed towads intermediate and advanced students of dance. The Koresh style incorporates elements of jazz, modern, ballet and ethnic dance into a unique contemporary style. A comprehensive warm-up is followed by across the floor excercises and a combination fashioned from the Koresh movement vocabulary is taught and performed.

In addition, the dancers of the company can teach technique classes in a variety of styles including jazz, modern, hip-hop, tap, and ballet. These classes can be geared towards any level of dance students, theatre students, or community participants.

Mr. Koresh can also teach a repertory class where specific choreography from company repertory is taught to students. The students can be exposed to certain sections of pieces that will be performed by the company in performance. This can enhance their understanding of the choreographer's style.
Lecture Demonstration
Melissa Rector of Koresh Dance CompanyWe have several lecture demonstrations with different themes that can be geared towards a variety of audiences. We tailor the programs to be age-appropriate from age 5 up to high school age. In a lec/dem, the company uses discussion, performance, and audience participation to engage the students and get them excited about dance.

Our most requested lec/dem is called "Styles of Dance" and it highlights the different styles of dance that our company fuses together to create our unique style of movement. In this lec/dem, we focus on the specific styles of ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop. The dancers demonstrate the same movements in each different style to illustrate the differences and similarities in each form. The company will then perform an excerpt from our repertoire that illustrates the use of all these elements in one cohesive style. At the conclusion of our lec/dem, we end with a question and answer period with the audience.

Some of the other lec/dems we offer are:
  • Partnering
This lec/dem will show how partnering is an integral part of our company's style. Mr. Koresh will discuss different elements of partnering work while the company demonstrates several different partnering dynamics. this lec/dem is best suited for the advanced dancers or a university setting.
  • Popular Culture
This lec/dem focuses on how culture and music influences not only Mr. Koresh's work, but many creative artists. we will discuss the elements of performance such as intensity, conviction of movement, and the importance of facial expression and focus. This also shows how the rehearsal process leads to performance.
  • Technical Design
In this lec/dem, our technical director/lighting designer can give lectures to theater students about designing for dance or theater works.
We are very open to new ideas and will work with presenters to develop a program best suited to their community and audience. We can provide sample outlines of our lecture demonstrations at request.
Setting work on students
Koresh Dance CompanyResidencies of at least a week may also include Mr. Koresh setting a piece from the company's repertory on students in a performing arts high school or university setting. The students can then have the opportunity to perform the piece as part of the company's show. The students love being a part of the professional experience, and this is also a great way to bring in audience members, as friends and family will come to see them perform. We have had great success with this in the past. Please contact us for more information on this activity.
Open Rehearsal
Koresh Dance CompanyMr. Koresh will talk about his choreographic methods and the company will rehearse pieces from the repertoire or new works in progress. The audience will get to experience the process behind the art of dance and to see how the artistic director shapes the dancers and the choreography. A question and answer session can also be included at the conclusion of the rehearsal.

In longer residencies, a work may be created by Mr. Koresh on the company and premiered in a performance at the conclusion of the residency.
Pre or Post-Performance Discussion
Koresh Dance CompanyMr. Koresh will talk about the pieces in the evening's performance, explaining the ideas and process behind his choreography and methods. Hearing from the artistic director can give the audience a better understanding of his background and the influences that make up his style.

The entire company can participate in a question and answer session with the audience following an evening's performance. This gives the audience a chance to meet the company and ask them questions. Audiences love the chance to meet the artists on an informal basis and get to know the individuals behind the performance.
