Koresh School of DanceSince 1993 the Koresh School of Dance has offered classes in dance instruction. In 2004, we began our Children's Program, offering classes for youth ages 2-16. In 2007, our program was named Best of Philly by Philadelphia Magazine.

Our Center City Philadelphia studio at 2020 Chestnut Street boasts two sprung floor dance studios and large dressing rooms, with classes held seven days a week. We offer children's classes in a wide variety of movement instruction, including Mommy & Me, Pre-Ballet, Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Modern. Our instructors are widely regarded as some of the best in the city.

Mommy & Me (Ages 2-3)
Enjoy some quality time with your little one! This class is designed for children and their parents and includes singing, stretching, music, props, circle games and tons of fun. Spend some time being creative with your child. (This class can be for daddies or nannies too!)
Creative Movement 1 (Ages 3-4)
Perfect for the younger student, this class is designed as an introduction to dance. It is a free form class that uses games and playing to get the students moving. They will use their imaginations and have fun with music as the teacher leads them through exercises.
Creative Movement 1 / Tumbling (Ages 3-4)
This combination class incorporates elements from Creative Movement 1 and introduces tumbling exercises to the children. Mats are used as the teacher instructs the students on basics such as somersaults.
Creative Movement 2 (Ages 5-6)
The level 2 class is similar to level 1 class but it is more structured and less free form as the students are older. Some basic dance technique and vocabulary will be introduced.
Pre Hip Hop (Ages 5-7)
This class serves as an introduction to hip hop dance for the younger student in a relaxed setting. Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork. It is a great way to get kids moving and having fun!
Hip Hop 1 (Ages 8-10) & Hip Hop 2 (Ages 11-16)
These classes teach the fundamentals of hip hop movement. After warming up with isolations and stretching, using popular music, the class will then move across the floor to work on rhythm, upper body strength and funky footwork. Hip Hop 2 will teach more advanced technique. Both classes will end with a fun combination that will leave the students energized.
Ballet / Jazz (Ages 6-8)
This combination class offers an introduction to two different dance techniques. Students will get the best of both worlds by learning about ballet and jazz in one class! This class is designed to introduce dance into the youngster's life. Approximately 30 minutes of each technique is taught.
Modern (Ages 12-16)
This class is designed for the older student who has dance experience. Emphasis will be placed upon spatial awareness, floor work, weight shift, and groundedness. Elements of Graham and Limon technique will be included.
* Modern students are required to take at least one ballet class per week.
Pre Ballet 1 (Ages 4-5) & Pre Ballet 2 (Ages 6-8)
These classes will introduce younger students to basic ballet vocabulary. Simple coordination, musicality, rhythm and concentration will be emphasized. Students are encouraged to explore space and have fun with dance.
Ballet 1 (Ages 8-12)
This class is suitable for beginners and will cover the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. It is a more formal setting that will give students the discipline to mature as dancers. The importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, and memorization will be stressed. Basics of performing will be introduced. It is recommended that students have taken Pre Ballet but it is not required.
Ballet 2 & 2X (Ages 10-14)
This class will complete the basics of ballet training and is for the student with some experience. Students will have a full understanding of ballet vocabulary. They are also expected to be more self-disciplined. Ballet 2X will include pre-pointe work (with the permission of the teacher).
* These students are expected to take two ballet classes a week.
Ballet 3 & 3X (Ages 12-16)
This an accelerated ballet class for committed students. More difficult technique will be introduced and these students will be encouraged to strive for grace and poise as there will be an emphasis on performance quality. Ballet 3X will have pointe.
* These students are expected to take three ballet classes a week.
Ballet 4
Students are allowed to take this class by permission only. It is for the advanced ballet student who is disciplined, professional, and possesses the desire to dance. It will include more difficult pointe technique. Variations may be taught as these students will have performance opportunities throughout the year.
* These students are expected to take four ballet classes a week.
