KYE 2020-2021 Season CONTRACT

The Koresh Youth Ensemble (KYE) was formed in the fall of 2008 to provide gifted young dancers intensive dance training and greater performance opportunities. Students who demonstrate both the talent and desire to pursue professionals training are selected to join as members.

Melissa Rector, assistant artistic director of Koresh Dance Company, oversees the ensemble, teaching and rehearsing with them on a weekly basis.

The Koresh Youth Ensemble enables young dancers to demonstrate their commitment to dance and strive for excellence in performance. In order to give members the best dance education, training is a fundamental part of our program. For this we require the following of each member:

Class Requirements

All KYE members must attend the following classes:

  • Jazz 3 with Melissa Rector: Tuesdays, 4:45-6:00pm

  • Ballet 3x with Eva Szabo: Wednesdays, 4:30-5:45pm

  • Modern 3 with Courtney Conigatti: Thursdays, 4:45-6:00pm

  • Ballet 4 with Eva Szabo: Saturdays, 1:30-2:45pm

  • Pointe 2 with Eva Szabo: Saturdays, 2:45 – 3:30pm

  • Ensemble Repertory/Rehearsals with Melissa Rector: Sundays, 1-4:30pm

Our fall session runs from Monday, September 14 to Sunday, December 12, 2020. Our spring session runs from January to June (exact dates TBA). Classes will likely remain the same schedule during spring session, however it is subject to change. Note: spring session is not the same price as the fall session, as the sessions are different lengths of time. In the event that the city mandates a shutdown, classes will be offered virtually.

Technical and artistic development are essential to our curriculum; dancers must commit to attending all of the required classes (unless otherwise permitted) in order to be admitted and to remain as members of the Ensemble.

All KYE members over the age of 16 are encouraged to take adult open classes at Koresh, this is not mandatory. Class cards can be purchased at a student discount and are available at the front desk. Koresh staff can recommend the best adult classes.

Rehearsals, Performances, & Ensemble Repertory

Youth Ensemble members depend on one another to be present, attentive, dedicated, and creatively involved. Absences create difficulties for the progress of the entire group, and should be kept to a minimum. The School Coordinator and KYE Director must be alerted of known absences in advance so that arrangements can be made for all dancers to remain up to date in their training and readiness for performances.

Planned Absences:  Planned absences should be kept to a minimum, but if you know of conflicts in advance or if any arise, notify us as soon as possible via email, school@koreshdance.org.

Unforeseen Absence:  If you are going to be late or miss rehearsal for any unforeseen reason, please call the studio at 215-751-0959 or text Melissa at 267-242-0724. Please do not rely on someone else to deliver a message regarding an unforeseen absence or tardiness. If you discover that you will be absent or tardy on the day of your rehearsal or class, texts, emails and Facebook messages will NOT be received in a timely manner, therefore we respectfully request a phone call for unforeseen absences or tardiness.

Schedule: Ensemble rehearsals are held on Sundays from 1-4:30pm unless otherwise noted. This schedule is subject to change. Also note that additional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed. Please arrive at the studio with sufficient time to prepare for rehearsal. 15 minutes in advance is suggested.

Attendance at all rehearsals, classes, and performances are MANDATORY. Any member with more than four absences for rehearsals and classes per KYE 2020-2021 season will jeopardize her or his position in the group.

Performance dates, showings, and master classes may be included throughout the year. We like to have our KYE members train and perform as often as possible. Itineraries will be sent out once bookings are confirmed. This will include information on costumes, tech times and call times which you are expected to be available. All KYE members are expected to be available for all Koresh Dance Company and Koresh School of Dance engagements. If members are not performing they are expected to be on hand to learn about technical and administrative functions associated with performance.

Please note all rehearsal and performance dates are subject to change. While the KYE is of the utmost importance to Artistic Director, Melissa Rector, as the senior member of the Koresh Dance Company sometimes unanticipated conflicts arise.  We thank you in advance for your patience. If any changes occur, we will give you as much notice as possible.

Member Fee

All Ensemble members agree to pay a $1,300 fee in order to be part of the group. This fee covers costs associated with all repertory classes and rehearsals for the year. It is a separate fee from the tuition for the required classes. Please note, other fees associated with performances, costumes, master classes, etc. may arise throughout the year.

We are very excited for you to be part of the Koresh Youth Ensemble! We look forward to working with you to make this season a success!
